As the physical brother of Jesus, James spent decades doubting his brother’s divinity until the resurrected Jesus appeared to him. That encounter transformed a skeptic into a man who would lead thousands, pray until his knees hardened, and die proclaiming Christ’s lordship. James could have introduced himself with impressive titles, but he chose “servant of Christ.” That humility exposes the poverty of identity built on degrees, titles, followers, influence, or family name. Authority becomes most refreshing when it does not need to advertise itself, because God remembers faithfulness even when people forget names.
