What does it actually take to move from capable professional to recognised authority? And what happens when someone with a serious corporate track record steps back, strips things down, and builds something far more deliberate?

That's what this conversation is about.

Ben Robbins spent over a decade at the sharp end of e-commerce and consulting - leading EMEA for a global consultancy, growing a team to 20+ people across Europe, and working with household names like Google, Meta, P&G and Unilever. He didn't leave because it wasn't working. He left because something else was pulling harder.

This is a conversation about motivation, subtraction, and what it really means to build a business around the life you want - not the one you assumed you should want.

✳️ The presenting problem is rarely the real problem - Ben works by digging beneath the surface to find what's actually driving the challenge. A founder who wanted more sales hires turned out to need a compelling reason for people to join - not a bigger recruiting budget.

✳️ More is not always the answer - one of the most consistent patterns Ben sees is people adding when they should be removing. Identifying what's in the way tends to unlock more than piling on new strategies ever could.

✳️ True motivation changes everything - asking what someone really wants - not just the revenue target, but what it would actually do for their life - is what turns vague goals into something worth working hard for.

Ben's Amplifiers

✳️ Start with subtraction - before adding anything new, ask what you could remove that would get you closer to your goal. Strip back what's blocking you before you reach for another tactic.

✳️ Design your ideal ordinary Tuesday - not a fantasy week, not your peak day. Just a good, average Tuesday. What does it look like? Who's in it? What work are you doing? That answer tends to reveal far more about what you actually want than any big goal-setting exercise.

✳️ Set a notional hourly rate - Ben recommends The Almanack of Naval Ravikant as a read that provokes this kind of thinking. The idea of setting a high hourly rate - not as a billing figure but as a filter - helps you get ruthless about what deserves your time and what doesn't.
