How do we recognize false teachers—and is false teaching only about getting our theology wrong?
In this episode of the Determined Truth Podcast, we explore 2 Peter and its urgent warning about false teachers within the church. While Christians often define false teaching primarily in terms of incorrect doctrine, 2 Peter pushes us further. Peter is deeply concerned with both what false teachers believe and the kind of lives their theology produces.
We begin by looking at the close relationship between 2 Peter and Jude, including why scholars frequently study these two letters together and how both draw upon Jewish traditions and writings outside the Old Testament canon.

Peter's warning is particularly important for the modern church. Correct doctrine alone is not enough if our theology produces greed, exploitation, sexual immorality, injustice, or indifference toward others.
Theology matters because what we believe ultimately shapes how we live.
And according to 2 Peter, the Christian response to false teaching isn't merely having better arguments. Followers of Jesus are called to grow in moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and—ultimately—love.
