Episode Description
In this episode of Faith Over Addiction, host Tanya Gioia sits down with Moriah Hagel — author of First and Forever: Singleness in Ephesians, Alignment: God's Will or Mine, and To Live: Finding the Mind of Christ, and co-founder of the Seasons Young Adult Conference. Moriah shares her personal journey of anchoring her identity in Christ through college, a fractured Bible study, family upheaval, and years of watching loved ones struggle with paths she couldn't control. She opens up about the difference between having an identity rooted in doing things for God versus one rooted in knowing Him, and how surrender, trust, and humility — not control — are what carry us through the hardest seasons, including walking alongside people we love who are hurting themselves.
Key Talking Points
- Finding identity in Christ, not in what we do for Him — Moriah's "secret identity" concept: mistaking service/ministry roles for identity itself
- Letting go of trying to fix or control others — the James study (Alignment) and learning "you worry about you, I'll worry about them"
- Man's anger doesn't produce God's righteousness — practical wrestling with wisdom, yielding, and staying pure/peaceable even when you're right
- The Book of Job reframe — trials pass through God's "merciful fingers" first, offering peace in suffering we don't understand
- Trust as a repeated theme — walking through singleness, watching sisters marry, and the loss of a nephew, learning "sufficient is today's trials for today" (daily manna)
- How to apologize without abandoning truth — separating being right from causing pain, and when to stay silent instead

Are you caught in the chaos of addiction, constantly cleaning up emotional, spiritual, and physical messes that aren't yours? Welcome to Faith Over Addiction, where faith meets real life. Hosted by Family Recovery Coach Tanya Gioia, this podcast is designed to offer Christian women hope, healing, and practical tools to navigate the challenges of loving someone with addiction.
Through biblical truths, heartfelt stories, and actionable guidance, you’ll learn how to set healthy boundaries, find peace in the mess, and reclaim your God-given identity. You don’t have to carry what was never meant to be yours. It’s time to shift from “this is happening to me” to “this is happening for me,” and let God transform the chaos into something that glorifies Him.
Every week, I’m here to encourage you, offer clarity, and remind you that as a daughter of the King, You Always Have Other Options (YAHOO). Together, we’ll embrace faith as the foundation, boundaries as the bridge to healing, and God’s truth as the ultimate guide to freedom, strength, and grace.
Blessings,
Tanya Gioia 🌸
