Hear this Wild Southern Journey from Italy to Arkansas. The Sunnyside Plantation was a cotton plantation  near Lake Village,  Chicot County, Arkansas, in the Arkansas Delta. Built as a cotton plantation,  it was farmed using the forced labor of African American slaves. After the War Between the States freedman farmed it. From the 1890s to the 1910s, it used convict laborers and employed immigrants from Northern Italy, many of whom were subject to peonage. Grandma JoAnne is a descendant of the SunnySide Plantation Italians.  Episode 21
