This article targeted Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) coursework significantly improves preservice teachers' subject mastery in volleyball and basketball, though posttest scores only reached moderate proficiency. The research indicates that while targeted instruction boosts specialized content knowledge—particularly error analysis and task sequencing—it should be prioritized over general activity courses for effective teacher training. We think this article is really thought provoking if you work in the PETE space and defiantly food for thought about what we are doing to prepare our students.
