Fifteen years in business has taught me a lot. Some of it the hard way.

If I were starting my photography business from scratch today, there are plenty of things I'd do differently. I'd market more consistently, stop counting on work that hasn't been booked, get better at knowing when to say no, and be a lot more deliberate about where I spend my time.

In this episode of Beyond the Image, I'm getting into the business lessons I wish I'd figured out sooner. We'll talk about why posting your work and hoping the right people find you isn't much of a marketing plan, why being busy doesn't necessarily mean you're making money, and why reaching out to potential clients directly is still one of the most effective ways to generate work.

I'm also talking about pricing, protecting your time, building systems, and the danger of chasing every new idea while neglecting the business that's supposed to pay the bills.

I don't have everything figured out after 15 years, but I've learned a few things worth sharing. If you're building a photography business, or trying to make the one you already have work better, hopefully you can learn from a few of my mistakes instead of having to make all of them yourself.
