Title

Knowing Our Place in Christ: Seated in Heaven With an Advocate Before God

Summary

“Jesus isn’t asleep on the job.” That line sums up an episode about knowing our place in Christ and what it means for everyday life. Starting in Revelation 12, it looks at the accuser being thrown out of heaven and at how believers overcome him by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.

From there the episode makes a bold claim: when we walk with the Lord, we already have a place in heaven. Ephesians describes believers raised up and seated with Christ, and Philippians says our citizenship is there right now. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is at work in us.

The second half looks at what Jesus is doing for us today. He is our advocate, our mediator and the guarantee of a better covenant, much like a bank guarantee lodged on a large contract. As The Order of Melchizedek also explores, he always lives to speak up for us, so nobody can make a charge stick against those God has justified.

Key Points

  • Revelation 12 describes the accuser cast down from heaven, and believers overcome him by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.
  • Our citizenship is in heaven now, and Ephesians says we have been raised up and seated with Christ in heavenly places.
  • The power that raised Jesus from the dead is the same power at work in every believer.
  • Jesus is our advocate, our mediator and the guarantee of a better covenant, and he always lives to speak up for us.
  • Because God justifies us, no charge against us can stand, and we are already children of God.
