A sigh of relief finally came over him as he walked off the badly battered shipped named the Hopewell. Smoke could be clearly seen out in the distance which was coming from the same location he last saw his friends and family at Roanoke. I could imagine him wondering how different they all looked after 3 years of being away from them. His granddaughter Virginia Dire who was the first English settler to be born in the "New World" had to be almost 3 now I bet she was unrecognizable.
Little did he know once he and his men stepped foot back on that island, they would never be the same again. You see once they arrived back at Roanoke they weren't welcomed by cheers of the colonist or the laughter of children playing. They were welcomed with nothing but the silence of empty houses and torn down walls. After 3 years of no contact with the outside world The Colony of Roanoke and all 115 settlers were gone without a trace.
