HELD was recorded in 2016, in a period of big change, personal mourning, and struggle. I wanted something simple and intimate. I wanted to climb into the music and feel held.
I recorded it on a Charles Walter upright piano in my living room in Portland, Oregon. It was the first piano I ever bought. My dog Kaya is on several of the songs, doing her thing in the background. She used to sleep while I played.
Many years later, this album was the soundtrack to her passing. It was one of the biggest synchonicities of my life. I dedicate this album to Kaya. And here I tell the full story.
