What if vision is about much more than eyesight?
In this episode, I share a personal story from my upcoming documentary Perceptual Ecology—how basketball became a refuge for me as a child and an early experience of self-regulation, rhythm, spatial awareness, and embodied presence.
From there, I explore the foundation of Perceptual Ecology: orientation → regulation → action. We look at what happens when our visual world becomes increasingly confined by phones and computers, why nature can help us reconnect with our bodies and surroundings, and how widening our perception may change the way we move through the world.
I also open the mailbag to answer three questions:
• Why do my eyes and body feel more relaxed in nature than on a screen?
• Does “perception before correction” mean I’m against glasses?
• Can stress change the way I see?
My new documentary is coming this fall, and I’ll be sharing more excerpts and conversations about this evolving work in the weeks ahead.
