Jeremiah was already a priest who went before God on behalf of the people. But when God called him as a prophet, his assignment shifted: he now had to go before the people on behalf of God and speak exactly what God commanded. God was not making a suggestion—He was issuing an instruction.
As believers, we are also called to be priests unto God. That means we should seek Him daily and ask: What is my assignment in prayer today? Who should I pray for? What should I pray about—and what should I stop praying about?

In Jeremiah 7:16, God specifically told Jeremiah not to pray for the people because of their rebellion. This reveals that prayer is not automatically obedience. We must hear God, follow His instructions, and avoid continuing to pray over matters He has already moved on from.
