Editors Select, April 2017 - As a huge fan of Prince, I had mixed feelings about listening to what could end up being an opportunistic, scandal-baiting attempt to cash in on his death. But while there are a few eyebrow-raising reveals, The Most Beautiful never falls prey to becoming tabloid fodder. Mayte Garcia presents her story, and it's impossible to listen to her tell it without feeling the genuine love and pain and (for better or worse, but mostly better) the profound effect Prince had on her life. This is her tale to tell as much as his. Mayte's early life, especially the unique track she took to become a professional belly dancer, is fascinating on its own. Most of all, what makes this a powerful audiobook is the raw emotion and vulnerability Mayte brings to the narration - with audible giggles, held back tears, and the tears she could not hold back.
