The plantation had been restored as a historical museum, but one part of the house remained off-limits.
The former owner’s study sat behind the dining room at the end of a narrow service passage. Officially, it was closed because of damage and ongoing restoration. But employees seemed uneasy whenever anyone had to go near it.
Then a seasonal tour guide began hearing heavy footsteps moving through the passage. Locked doors shifted on their own. Workers described feeling watched, followed, and sometimes driven out of the area entirely.
The pattern became difficult to ignore. Whatever remained near the study didn’t seem confused about where it was. It behaved like a man who still believed the plantation belonged to him...and that everyone else was expected to follow his rules.
