On this episode of The Wisconsin Sportsman, Pierce is joined by Alaina Roth to dive into the world of hunting for Wisconsin black bears! Alaina is a Wisconsin-native and serves as the Wildlife Biologist for Vilas County. In this episode, Alaina shares her background studying bears, turkeys, and upland birds, what a year looks like for a black bear, and a black bear researcher in Wisconsin, how bears food sources change, and hibernation habits. After that she discusses pros and cons of hunting bears with dogs, over bait, or a combination of the two, how to care for the meat and hide, and common misconceptions folks have about bears.
