The inimitable Joey King joins us on the couch to talk about joining Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock in ‘Practical Magic 2.’ At just 27, Joey has already been acting for more than two decades, starting out in commercials at four before landing her breakout role opposite Selena Gomez in ‘Ramona and Beezus’ (which we chat about of course). In this wide-ranging convo she reflects on growing up on-screen, auditioning as the real work, and why acting is, inherently, a little embarrassing.
Joey also gets into her longtime ‘Practical Magic’ fandom, working with Nicole and Sandy, the sisterhood at the heart of the movie, casting spells on set and midnight margaritas with her legendary co-stars. Plus, she talks texting with Nicole for life advice (as well as interrupting Nic and Zac Efron’s onscreen tryst in ‘A Family Affair,’ while almost choking on a grape), shaving her head and growing it back (and shaving it again and again), working with Christopher Nolan, learning from Patricia Arquette, her marriage to director Steven Piet, her bestie Sabrina Carpenter, being haunted on the set of ‘The Conjuring,’ and her ICONIC, shoulda-been-award-winning role as Gypsy Rose Blanchard — plus so much more!
