Surabaya Kutha is a soulful, bicultural cross-over that bridges worlds, continents, and histories. Conceived during a tour across Java, the track serves as a tribute to the historic Indonesian port city of Surabaya.

Sung entirely in Javanese over a warm landscape of lush analog synths and keyboards, the song is rooted in the nostalgic, melodic tradition of Krontjong while honoring my pre-slavery West African heritage. Weaving through the electronic textures are the enchanting sounds of the Kora, performed by the authentic Gambian griot Yankuba Konteh.
