This week four films from one of the best crime/thriller/mystery/romance/comedy/drama/fantasy/action directors that's ever been- Johnnie To. Police Captain Zhang arrests drug manufacturer Choi while Choi is fleeing from an explosion at one of his facilities. Realizing that his penalty will be death, Choi makes a deal to deliver "Uncle Bill" a high tier drug lord with designs on expanding his operation globally. A smart and tense thriller with brilliant set pieces- Drug War. Chi-yan is a brilliant and motivated financial analyst whose love life is torn between her very attractive but philandering boss and the former alcoholic architect in the building across the street. A tightly plotted and often actually funny romcom with a trio of charming leads- Don't Go Breaking My Heart. Inspector Ho had inherited a cold case of a missing police officer whose gun is being used in a series of crime. Ho turns to the brilliantly gifted Detective Bun who had been forced into retirement due to his deteriorating mental health. A wildly inventive, surreal, chaotic, and darkly comedic ride through the night streets looking for needles in a concrete haystack- Mad Detective. Triad boss Lung barely survives an assassination attempt at a restaurant. To ensure his safety, they pull Curtis, a once brutally cold and efficient enforcer, out of retirement to head a five man protection detail. Brilliantly shot and edited, tightly plotted, respectfully treating its characters like professionals, stuffed with tense action scenes- The Mission.
All that plus Dave gushes so hard he might spring a leak and Kevin watches with cold detachment. Join us, won't you? Episode 472- To the Line
