The wisdom behind the descent of Ādam (ʿalayhis-salām) from Paradise to the earth, a lecture by Ustādh Abu Arwa Ali (hafidhahullāh), from Ibn al-Qayyim's Miftāḥ Dār as-Saʿādah (raḥimahullāh)
• Every decree of Allāh carries a wisdom, whether or not we can see it, just as a car maker's choices have reasons the driver may not know
• Tasting the toil and hardship of this world makes the believers value Paradise all the more, for things are made clear by their opposites
• Paradise is not a place of commands and prohibitions, so the rank earned by obedience, patience and sacrifice is gained only in this world
• The names of Allāh (al-Ghafūr, ar-Raḥīm, al-Muḥyī, al-Mumīt, al-Malik) need an abode in which their effects appear, and the angels were told "I know what you do not know"
• Īmān in the unseen, the prophets, the martyrs and the friends of Allāh could only emerge from a life of trial
• ʿUbūdiyyah (servitude) is the highest station: the Prophet ﷺ chose to be a slave and messenger, and Allāh calls him His ʿabd at the Isrāʾ, in the call and in the challenge
• Desire and anger are part of our make-up, and Ādam's trial with Iblīs prepares his children to be on guard against the enemy
• Allāh's joy at the repentance of His servant (the ḥadīth of the man and his lost mount) requires sin and tawbah to occur in this world
