“Born Again” – What Does This Actually Mean?

Dela

What does it really mean to be "born again"? In John 3, a religious leader named Nicodemus comes to Jesus by night and hears that he must be "born again." In this sermon, Dr. Toby Holt explains the doctrine of regeneration — the real, inward change God works when someone comes to Christ.

Questions this sermon answers:

1. Is being "born again" just a figure of speech? No. It describes a genuine spiritual new birth — God making a dead heart alive. Something truly changes when a person is brought to Christ.

2. Can we give ourselves this new birth? No. Just as no one chooses their natural birth, the new birth is God's work in us, received by faith, not achieved by effort.

3. Why is it necessary? Jesus says plainly that without it no one can see the kingdom of God. Regeneration is not optional; it is essential to salvation. "Jesus answered and said to him, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.'" — John 3:3 (NKJV)
