2 hours. The 2 hours before the shooting changed everything.
In this two-part episode, Op examines the 2023 shooting inside Richneck Elementary School, where a 6-year-old first grader brought a handgun to school and shot his teacher, Abigail Zwerner, in her classroom.
But the shooting was only the beginning of the story.
What followed pulled investigators, prosecutors, school administrators, and the child’s family into separate legal battles over how the gun became accessible, what adults knew beforehand, and whether warnings inside the school were ignored. Those questions eventually moved from classrooms and police reports into criminal court and a civil trial.
When the person who pulls the trigger is only six years old, where does responsibility actually begin? And how does this end?
