GENIUS ALERT ft. Rob Aquino - Rich Girls S1E1 “Prom"

Lara and Carey welcome back friend of the pod, club visionary, and cultural lightning rod Rob Aquino to the SUP stu for another chapter of GENIUS ALERT. They talk Rob’s New York to LA trajectory, bringing 2013 New York to the LA party scene, the splendor of early 2000s Long Island and more.

Then Rob brings Larz and Carz back to 2002 Manhattan, where MTV’s Rich Girls starring Aly Hilfiger and Jaime Gleicher kicks off its oft-maligned one season wonder. Aly and Jaime, best friends and 18 going on 55, are finishing off their senior year of high school with an unenthusiastic prom obligation. They do a day of shopping blitz, with help from indie sleaze sleep paralysis daemon “Michael H.” Aly talks about her time on Ari Onassis’s legendary yacht “The Christina” while Jaime angsts over limo payment and inviting her prom date via voicemail. After securing the limo, Aly and Jamie invite their crew to pre-prom festivities at Jaime's mom’s divorce pad/cig den. Jaime's unrequited love/frenemy, Michael, arrives to suck face with his dad and skimp out on paying Jaime and Aly for the limo. Prom goes off without a hitch, and the Rich Girls head to the after party, where they rock it till the wee hours of the morning. Then they run into Mischa Barton and Jaime's date pukes up a storm.
