C.J. Stroud is betting on himself — and the Houston Texans quarterback could be making one of the biggest financial gambles of his career.
Reports indicate Stroud is comfortable playing out the 2026 NFL season without signing a long-term extension before Week 1. Houston has reportedly offered Stroud a contract worth more than $50 million annually, but the Texans QB appears willing to bet that another big season could push his value closer to $60 million per year — or even beyond it.
So… RIGHT MOVE OR WRONG MOVE FROM C.J. STROUD?
The answer isn't as simple as it looks.
Top-tier NFL quarterback contracts are projected to continue climbing, potentially surpassing $60 million to $65 million annually by 2028. And if the salary cap reaches roughly $330 million in 2028, elite quarterbacks commanding 15-20% of the cap could be looking at contracts right around the $60 million mark.
If Stroud's bet pays off, HE WINS AGAINST THE HOUSE.
But if it doesn't?
The Houston Texans hold all the cards.
And honestly, that's why I expect this betting year to bring out the BEST version of C.J. Stroud.
Forget the idea that Stroud needs to be put in a box and turned into a game manager. NO.
If C.J. Stroud is betting on himself, then Houston needs to LET HIM COOK.
The stats need to follow. The production needs to follow. The big plays need to follow. And if Stroud delivers the type of season many believe he's capable of, that $60 million price tag could become very real.
