This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. Opened in 2021, Roots Coffee & Co. has lived by its motto, “People First, Coffee Second,” creating an experience centered on meaningful connections, exceptional customer service and great coffee. Owner, Kenzie Packard, joins us with more.

Kenzie Packard: Building a business has taught us that success has very little to do with what you’re selling and everything to do with how you make people feel. Since opening five years ago, we’ve grown to three locations and recently expanded into wholesale, but that growth isn’t what we’re most proud of.

What we’re most proud of is the community that we’ve built. We’ve always believed that if you’re fortunate enough to grow, you should put the ladder back down and help someone else climb it. That’s why we love partnering with local businesses, cheering on other entrepreneurs and creating genuine relationships.

We truly believe there’s enough room for all of us to succeed. Coffee has never been the end goal. It’s simply what brings people through our doors. But what really matters is that people leave feeling seen, remembered, encouraged or like they belong.

If we’ve done that, then we’ve done exactly what we set out to do.

Derek Miller: Roots Coffee & Co. has built a welcoming space where every cup of coffee and conversation helps bring the community together. To learn more visit RootsCoffeeUtah.com. I'm Derek Miller, with the Salt Lake Chamber, Speaking on Business.
