"Fjord"

For this week's second podcast review, Amy Kim, Josh Parham, Dan Bayer, and Tom O'Brien join me to review and discuss the latest film from director Cristian Mungiu, "Fjord," starring Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve. The film follows a conservative Romanian-Norwegian couple who face scrutiny after moving to the wife's progressive, remote Norwegian hometown. It went on to win the Palme d'Or at this year's Cannes Film Festival and has sparked plenty of conversation and debate about its thorny, provocative themes, while Stan and Reinsve's performances have received considerable praise. What did we think of it? Please tune in, video or audio only, as we discuss these elements, including Mungiu's writing and direction, the ambiguity of its editing, the mixed reactions from critics, whether it was worthy of the Palme d'Or, its awards season chances, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you for listening, and enjoy!
