Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows!

This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track!

Check out today's questions:

Liam: I am planning to train for a marathon here in a few months. What insight do you have as far as balancing mTOR and AMPK during training? Obviously, mTOR is crucial for building strong muscles and tendons and preventing injury, but AMPK also stimulates mitochondrial biogenesis. Because I love morning workouts, my overall thought process was to workout fasted on lower intensity days, where my body can meet energy demand relying on predominately fat oxidation. I'd get the workout in while still being in a high fasted state. On the higher intensity days, I'd have a snack prior, which may kick me out of a fasting state slightly, but would allow me to perform out the desired intensity to maximize my training adaptations. Thanks for all that you do!

Kim: I watched your food sensitivity podcast. You said anything under 3.5 is optimal and the report had under 4.47 is optimal. I had an Equilife food sensitivity test and each food had its own sensitivity range. Most of the vegetables I eat were under 3.5 but were in moderate to high reactivity, such as, lettuce was 1.62, spinach was 1 and celery was 1.47. These were moderate reactivity. Cauliflower was 3.18 and bell pepper was 2.62 and under high reactivity. Also, most fish/seafood, meat/fowl, soybean, tofu, gliadin were zero. Why are foods now considered reactive that are under 3.5? What is causing high protein foods have zero reactivity?

Sarah: Hello! I'm an esthetician and have dealt with acne for 10 years (I'm now 30). I've done extensive internal work over the years, including lots of testing and different protocols, but I've never been able to get 100% clear, especially around my neck/jawline. Over the past few months I started using tazarotene, and my skin has responded incredibly well. My questions are: if a topical like taz can clear my skin so effectively, does that suggest my acne may be more of a follicular/skin level dysfunction rather than an internal root cause? Is topical treatment a "band aid," or are there cases where acne genuinely isn't driven by an internal imbalance? How can we determine whether acne is actually being driven internally?

Lara: Hi, dr. C! Hope you & your family are well! I was just listening to the episode 3824 where someone was asking about chickpeas, whether to get them in a glass jar or a can etc. You answered that you get them organic in a can & that they have been pressure cooked BEFORE they were put in a can, but I've been researching this & apparently they actually put them in the cans raw & pressure cook them IN the can - which is awful, considering the cans are coated with plastic coating & sometimes other chemicals.. did you find a company that doesn't do that because my understanding is that they all do it this way? Thank you, lots of love & healing to everyone.

Berry: Hi Doc, I am so thankful that you give us a chance to ask you questions. My father is 82 and goes to the hospital for various issues related to having one kidney. However, he frequently ends up picking up different diseases when he's there (last time it was pneumonia). Is there anything to do to help clean the hospital environment? For example, would spraying ozone in the room, taking large quantities of vitamin C or putting silver infused sheets on his bed help? Is there anything to do to lessen the risk of hospital related illnesses? Thank you so much for your thought

Thank you for tuning into today's Cabral HouseCall and be sure to check back tomorrow where we answer more of our community's questions!
