From Naarm/Melbourne and now living and recording in Berlin, Georgia Bird has developed an instinctive ear that builds a bridge between the cosmic, psychedelic potential of forward-thinking electronic music, and the power of a well-deployed soundsystem in the early hours, bridging hemispheres with finely-tuned minimal, tech-house and electro sounds that possess real character.
Fresh off the recent release of her four-track ‘Move Like That’ EP, supported by Daniel Avery, Or:la and Sally C, Bird’s contribution to PHANTASYMIX is a sophisticated trip that blends rolling, strange club trax from the likes of Rework, Dominik Eulberg and glob deejay, as well as leftfield lyrical treats such as Lipstick’s ‘Situation Again’, Circus Operandi’s lightly menacing ‘Blah Blah Blah’ and the ‘Sex Schnon’ mix of Scratch Massive’s ‘Make It High’.
The resulting hour makes anthems of obscurities, reminiscent of high-watermark mixes by Ellen Allien, who features with ‘Funkenflug der Träume’, as well as the wonky human resonance of classic Kompakt or Perlon sounds, redeployed for a generation ready to turn their phones off, and keep their heads down when on the dancefloor.
