Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2967
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2967 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.<#0.5#>
The title for today's Wisdom-Trek is: Lady Wisdom’s Grand Banquet – The Seven Pillars of Cosmic Order.<#0.5#>
On our previous podcast, on Day Two Thousand Nine Hundred Sixty-Five, we stood at the majestic gates of life alongside Lady Wisdom, who delivered her ultimate, passionate ultimatum. We learned that those who wait daily at her doorway, hungering for her instruction, find true, vibrant life and receive the smiling favor of the Lord! We also faced the terrifying, unavoidable reality that those who reject her are actively doing violence to their own souls, falling in love with the dark abyss of death. Today, as we step forward onto Day Two Thousand Nine Hundred Sixty-Seven of our ongoing trek through God’s Word, we arrive at the grand, spectacular climax of the entire introductory section of Proverbs! For eight chapters, Solomon has been setting the stage, contrasting the path of the righteous with the path of the wicked. Now, in Proverbs chapter nine, he brings this epic prologue to a close by presenting us with a tale of two rival houses, two rival hostesses, and two rival banquets! Today, we will focus on verses one through six, where Lady Wisdom throws open the doors of her magnificent estate. Having spent over fifty years focusing on and studying Biblical wisdom, and having accumulated seventy years of life experiences, I can tell you that the universe is not offering you a multiple-choice test with dozens of valid options. There are only two tables set in this world! You will either feast at the table of eternal wisdom, or you will consume the poisonous scraps of folly.<#0.5#>
Let us open our minds and hearts to the breathtaking architecture of God's truth, as recorded in the New Living Translation, grouping together the deeply connected, highly visual thoughts found in Proverbs chapter nine, verse one, and verse two.<#0.5#>
Wisdom has built her house; she has carved its seven columns. She has prepared a great banquet, mixed the wines, and set the table.<#0.5#>
Look at the extraordinary, monumental scale of this preparation! Verse one begins by declaring, "Wisdom has built her house; she has carved its seven columns." This is no flimsy, temporary tent, and it is certainly not the dark, secretive bedroom of the seductress we encountered in chapter seven! This is a sprawling, permanent, royal palace! To fully comprehend the majesty of this imagery, we must look through the lens of the Ancient Israelite divine-council worldview. In ancient Near Eastern thought, a house with seven pillars represented a temple—a cosmic center where the divine realm intersected with the earthly realm. The number seven always symbolizes divine perfection, absolute completeness, and the unshakeable order of Yahweh's creation! When Solomon tells us that Lady Wisdom has carved her seven columns, he is reminding us that God’s moral law upholds the very fabric of the universe. When you build your family, your business, and your daily habits upon biblical wisdom, you are not balancing your life on a fragile, shifting cultural trend; you are anchoring your legacy to the indestructible pillars of the cosmos!<#0.5#>
Notice what is happening inside this magnificent palace in verse two! "She has prepared a great banquet, mixed the wines, and set the table." In the ancient world, a banquet was never merely about satisfying physical hunger; it was a profound symbol of covenant fellowship, peace, and intimate communion. When a king hosted a feast, sharing his meat and mixed, spiced wine, he was offering his protection and his favor to his guests! Lady Wisdom has spared absolutely no expense. The slaughtering of the livestock, the careful blending of the finest wines, and the precise setting of the table—every single detail has been flawlessly executed. God is not offering a reluctant, meager ration of survival to His followers. He is inviting us into an abundant, joyful, overflowing feast of spiritual nourishment!<#0.5#>
The narrative now shifts from the grand preparations inside the house to the sweeping, public invitations sent out into the world, linking together the urgent, compassionate thoughts found in Proverbs chapter nine, verse three, and verse four.<#0.5#>
She has sent her servants to invite everyone to come. She calls out from the heights overlooking the city. “Come in with me,” she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says,<#0.5#>
Listen to the aggressive, outgoing hospitality of Lady Wisdom! Verse three tells us, "She has sent her servants to invite everyone to come. She calls out from the heights overlooking the city." She does not just build her house, lock the doors, and wait to see if anyone is clever enough to find it! She actively deploys her maidservants into the streets, and she personally stands at the highest, most visible vantage points of the city to broadcast her invitation. This is the relentless, pursuing grace of Yahweh! From the prophets of the Old Testament to the apostles of the New Testament, God has always dispatched His messengers into the bustling, noisy streets of humanity, crying out for wandering souls to come home to His covenant table.<#0.5#>
But look very closely at exactly who she is targeting in verse four! "Come in with me, she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says..." This is one of the most beautiful, comforting truths in all of Scripture! She does not restrict her guest list to the elite scholars, the flawless moralists, or the independently wealthy. She specifically calls out to the "simple"—the peti—the naive, the inexperienced, the gullible, and the broken! She invites those who currently lack good judgment! Over my seven decades on this earth, I have met countless people who feel too ashamed, too foolish, or too damaged to approach God. They believe they must clean themselves up, acquire perfect understanding, and fix all their mistakes before they can step foot inside God's house. But Lady Wisdom shatters that lie! She is calling you precisely because you are simple; she is inviting you exactly because you need her judgment! She offers a safe sanctuary for the inexperienced to learn, to grow, and to be transformed.<#0.5#>
Having gathered her guests from the streets, Lady Wisdom now issues her ultimate, life-altering challenge, weaving together the profound, active commands found in Proverbs chapter nine, verse five, and verse six.<#0.5#>
“Come, eat my food, and drink the wine I have mixed. Leave your simple ways behind, and begin to live; learn to use good judgment.”<#0.5#>
What a magnificent, nourishing invitation! In verse five, she says, "Come, eat my food, and drink the wine I have mixed." She is offering the very sustenance of the divine council! In biblical theology, eating and drinking at God's table represents internalizing His truth, absorbing His character, and finding total satisfaction in His presence. The world will try to feed you the junk food of instant gratification, the cheap calories of social media validation, and the toxic wine of bitterness and envy. That worldly diet will leave your soul malnourished, hollow, and sick! But the food of Lady Wisdom brings strength to your bones, clarity to your mind, and enduring peace to your heart.<#0.5#>
Then comes the defining requirement of the entire feast in verse six! You cannot just eat the food and remain exactly as you were. She commands: "Leave your simple ways behind, and begin to live; learn to use good judgment." Here is the glorious, difficult friction of grace! Lady Wisdom invites you exactly as you are—naive, simple, and foolish—but she loves you far too much to let you stay that way! To sit at her table, you must make a decisive, intentional break with your past. You must leave your simple ways behind! You must abandon the reckless habits, the lazy excuses, the toxic relationships, and the moral compromises that have kept you chained to the shadows. <#0.5#>
Look at the stunning promise attached to this repentance: "...and begin to live!" Walking away from foolishness is not a death sentence to your joy; it is the very beginning of true, vibrant, eternal life! When you leave the shadows of the simple and step into the brightly lit banquet hall of God's truth, you finally learn to use good judgment. You learn to weigh your decisions on the scales of eternity, and you begin to build a legacy that will outlast your physical breath.<#0.5#>
As we wrap up our spectacular trek through the opening verses of Proverbs chapter nine today, I urge you to look up at the heights of the city! Do you hear the voice of Lady Wisdom calling your name? Do you...
