The Iditarod has been called the “Last Great Race on Earth” and has won worldwide acclaim and interest. The race covers over 1150 miles of the roughest, most beautiful terrain Alaska has to offer. The Iditarod Trail, now a National Historic Trail, had its beginnings as a mail and supply route. In 1925 the trail became a life saving highway as intrepid dog mushers brought serum to epidemic-stricken Nome.
