Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory was founded in 1952 as a nuclear weapons research facility. LLNL has a core mission in national security and applies its scientific and technical capabilities to solve nationally important problems. With its world-class workforce and atmosphere of intellectual integrity and innovation, the Laboratory has sustained scientific and technical excellence for more than 55 years. The Laboratory is managed by Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC, for the National Nuclear Security Administration within the U.S. Department of Energy.
