At 6:22 in Grand Island, Nebraska, Donald Trump walked onto a stage and told Iran it could “take out Los Angeles” and “take out San Diego,” calling the destruction of American cities a “very small price to pay.” I was watching live, and I ran into my husband’s office to make sure I had heard him correctly. Those are the cities where my daughters sleep. They are also home to military families, immigrant communities, and millions of Americans the president swore to protect. What followed was an hour and 23 minutes of lies, self-obsession, and a president showing us just how little he understands the responsibility he holds.
Based on the events of Oct 5, 2026 The Breakdown: Trump’s Nebraska speech and his words about letting Iran “take out” Los Angeles and San Diego Why calling American lives a “small price to pay” should be grounds for impeachment and removal The silence from elected officials, and why every Republican and Democrat should be demanding accountability The danger of a president who controls nuclear weapons but cannot be trusted to communicate clearly or weigh the consequences Why this was personal for my family in Southern California, and why I would feel the same about any American city Naval Base San Diego, Miramar, Camp Pendleton, and the service members and families living in the counties he named Todd Blanche’s voter-record subpoenas in San Diego and Los Angeles, and the possibility these cities were not chosen at random The Brennan Center’s warning about a fishing expedition and a judge blocking the DOJ’s use of a federal database to search voter rolls Trump claiming he invented “Make America Great Again,” despite Ronald Reagan’s earlier campaign slogan His Venezuela boasting while failing to mention the at least 19 American service members killed in the Iran war The red-dyed diesel executive order he signed after admitting, “I don’t know what the hell it is” Trump telling Pete Ricketts and Jim Pillen the order should “absolutely assure your election” Disaster relief treated as a personal favor because Nebraska voted for him, instead of money that belongs to taxpayers His Washington and Lincoln comparison, Trump 2028 hats, and repeated attacks calling Democrats communists Thom Tillis saying at least 30 Republican senators privately have serious reservations, while primary threats keep them in line Tillis’s “dictator king” warning, his predicted Republican “electoral bloodbath,” and his concern about Trump’s reaction The next 29 days: knocking on doors, talking to voters, helping people reach the polls, and taking away the Congress that enables him
