Sola Scriptura And Other Choose Your Own Adventures - Witness Weekly - "Authority?" Episode | (Uncut) (Unedited)

This version of this episode has been available to Cloud of Witnesses Patreons since July 11th, 2026.

We dig into what “authority” really means, starting with current events and ending with the uncomfortable question behind so many hot takes: who gave you the right to define Christianity. We push back on DIY faith, argue that real authority looks like service and sacrifice, and trace why the Orthodox Church treats tradition as an inheritance that keeps the fire alive.

• St Catherine’s Monastery land dispute and why it matters to Christians
• SSPX excommunication and what it reveals about church authority
• Parish Life Conference highlights and the role of worship in unity
• Responding to “keep faith simple” claims and asking by what authority
• Sola scriptura and the problem of the individual as final interpreter
• “Leave your Protestantism at the door” and why Orthodoxy is lived, not just studied
• A Tale of Two Cities as a story of cruel authority versus self-sacrifice
• Authority as burden and responsibility rather than privilege
• Individualism as a cultural and spiritual threat, humility as the antidote
• Listener comments on Hebrew Roots journeys, prayer, and spiritual deception
