Garth Barfoot is 88 years old and, a few weeks ago, was the oldest finisher in the 2024 New York marathon.

This is his second time on the podcast- last time he came on was in 2022 when he was just on his way to London for the marathon.

What makes Garths story even more inspiring is he was a late bloomer- did not even start running until his early 50s.

In this conversation with this truly great New Zealander we talk about his whole recent New York experience.

We go back for a look at his childhood and what it was like being a kid in NZ during the second world war.

We chat about his career in real estate at the firm his dad established- Barfoot and Thompson.

He shares some valuable life lessons, including the importance of staying positive, adapting to modern technology and the keys to a fulfilling retirement and his aspirations he holds for the future, particularly in relation to his passion for marathons.

Garth is the man. He inspires me and gives me a glimpse into just how awesome life can look in your 80s if you stay fit and healthy (and have a little bit if luck). Hope you guys like this one.
