This past week we woke up one day and found that the Assad dictatorship that controlled Syria for nearly six decades was gone. Islamist rebels had overrun Damascus and Aleppo and President Assad fled to Russia. It’s widely unclear what will be the future of Syria and its citizens, particularly the minorities. And while Turkey currently has an upper hand and Iranian and Russian presence has been weakened, it’s unclear what will be. It’s also unclear how this will impact Israel which has acted boldly to obliterate remains of the Syrian army. Who is in charge and what will be? We discuss this and more with Dr. Josef Olmert, a decades long expert on Syria.
