There is much more to Hawaii than beautiful beaches and topography. In this episode, Lynn takes you through the proud history of the Paniolo, Hawaiian cowboy.
It all started with five cows and a bull brought to the islands in 1793 as a gift to King Kamehameha I. For twenty years, the cattle were protected and allowed to roam freely. When the cattle became a nuisance, King Kamehameha III brought Mexican vaqueros from California to the island, and the rich paniolo culture began.
Guests Deedee Keakealani and Bobbie-Jo Griffith are the proud descendants of generations of Paniolo Hall of Fame inductees. These women and their families are dedicated to preserving the rich paniolo traditions. You will hear the emotion and pride clearly as they share their story.
