Jonathan Drew, Managing Director of ESG Solutions at Global Banking HSBC talks to Nigel Mattravers, Joint Venture Representative of Hong Kong-based New Life Plastics about the company’s business plan to recover plastic and process it for reuse. Nigel explains how the fledgling business, operating out of Hong Kong’s EcoPark, has identified a clear business case built upon an environmental need for its operations. With about 5m PET bottles thrown away in Hong Kong every day, mainly disposed of in landfill, the business has a clear supply chain and, with increasing regulation in the EU mandating the percentage of recycled plastic to be used in new products, there is also a growing market for the company’s recycled outputs. Discussing both challenges and opportunities, Nigel shares his experience of being part of the circular economy and considers how other businesses and industries can join in the path to a better future.
