Pablo de Gortari is a flamboyant and gregarious figurative contemporary portrait painter from Mexico City.By mixing skills from illustration, animation and painting, his work combines the spontaneity of sketches with the delicacy of painting.

Art for Pablo has always been a way to escape reality and his images and palettes are strongly influenced by fantasy and mythical elements.

The characterisation of each portrait is Pablo's main focus; showcasing emotions and state of mind as each figurative work exists almost within their own unique narrative.  Inspired by Spanish portraiture from the 1600s Pablo brings his unique surrealist contemporary interpretation. In our conversation, Pablo reflects how life now, being based in a studio in Stockholm, has impacted his work, technique and aesthetic.Follow Pablo on Instagram and view his works in progress and studio images on his website.View Pablo de Gortari's artist page over on the Nordic Art Agency website where you can view the works discussed, Leonor, Pernilla with the blue hair and Paolo, the young boy with his sea pony..On our next episode, we shall be in conversation with abstract artist Chelsea Davine.  Chelsea has been working from her Barcelona studio for 20 years creating paintings with her own decorative style and unique use of material.
