Though the #Netherlands may be synonymous with cannabis liberalisation in Europe, its legal cannabis market has had a long and nuanced history. With the first phase of its controlled cannabis supply chain experiment launching in December 2023, the initial results of this trial are now beginning to filter through, with many more municipalities due to come online over the next few months. In this State of Play Session, the panel examines the continued regulatory and practical barriers facing the experiment, alongside the Netherlands’ rich history as a pioneer for cannabis reform.
