As a DJ, music curator, music producer, radio host and a bandleader, J Boogie has been a staple of the San Francisco music scene for over 25 years. His production work includes remixes of artists like Miguel Migs, Alice Russell and Mark Farina and more recently a collaboration with Deejay Theory called “Brothers in Arms”. His band, J Boogie’s Dubtronic Science, was one of the first acts to incorporate DJing and live music into a new live concert experience. His experience in the music industry has led him offstage as well. Currently, J Boogie is the Head of Hip Hop & R&B Programming at Pandora Media.

In this interview, J Boogie talks about the difference between gigs with a creative emphasis vs gigs strictly for money, early San Francisco rave culture, and drops game on being an artist in the digital era.
