Rice Shortage in Mae La Camp, Thailand

Since 2014 Australian Mercy, a part of Youth With A Mission, has been committed to assisting with the Mae La refugee camp on the Thailand/Burma border. The refugee camp currently houses about 50,000 Burmese refugees and is the largest refugee camp for the Burmese refugees in Thailand and is the home to a very large Karen population.

Recently is was reported that the situation with rice in Mae-la is getting worse. They urgently need to raise funds for their nutritional supplements program in Mae-la camp. The refugees in Thailand do not feel safe to return to Burma, and for good reason. There is not a day where we do not hear about dangers from the Burmese military, land confiscations or landmines. As time progresses, food distributions in the camps continue to be reduced.

To provide rice and tinned fish supplements for the rest of the year Australian Mercy needs to raise another $15,000, and if they want to extend the program to others, they need to raise much more.

Find out how you can help to provide nutrition to the Mae La Refugee camp with Australian Mercy at australianmercy.org.

During the hike they did an interview with Spirit Radio, and you can hear a part of that interview now ...

<audio>

You can listen to the entire interview, with some other great stories about the trek, over at the Spirit Radio web-site, spiritradio.ie.
