Tad O’Cain has spent his life drinking, gambling, and wasting the fortune his wealthy father worked so hard to build. Furious after being pressured to settle down and marry, Tad storms out into the night and drunkenly declares he’d rather dance with a dead man than give up his reckless life. Moments later, deep beside a lonely chapel and graveyard shrouded in fog, something hears him. Surrounded by strange black creatures and cursed with a rotting corpse clinging to his back, Tad is forced into a terrifying race against the coming dawn, carrying the dead through abandoned churches and haunted graveyards where restless spirits refuse to let him pass. As the night grows darker and more desperate, Tad realizes that some promises are heard by things far older—and far crueler—than he ever imagined.
