The poets and philosophers of the Classical Tradition all seem to express a longing for the coming of a perfect ruler. In the Odyssey, Homer longed for a perfect king who would be wise, courageous, and moderate. In the Republic, Plato longed for a philosopher king who would establish the perfectly just city. In the Aeneid, Virgil longed for a statesman who would bring peace to the nations. Were these pagan authors ultimately longing for the coming of Jesus Christ, who came to us in the fullness of time according to Galatians 4:4-5? In this episode, Betty Gage invites us to consider how the Classical Tradition of Greece and Rome can give us a newfound appreciation for the Advent of Jesus, the Prince of Peace!
