Environmental toxins are seemingly everywhere in our daily lives. These synthetic substances which are not usually found in our bodies are known as xenobiotics. Given the ubiquitous nature of xenobiotics and their effects on our health, trying to be mindful of them and avoiding them can seem difficult – especially if you don’t realize they exist!

In today’s episode, we discuss three common xenobiotics that can interrupt hormone metabolism, contribute to obesity, and are associated with many chronic health conditions – bisphenol A (BPA), polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB), and phthalates.

Today on The Lab Report:

3:35 Defining Terms: Xenobiotics

5:35 What is BPA and why should we care?

8:10 Endocrine Disruptors and Obesogens

10:55 Polychlorinated biphenyl – PCBs

15:25 Phthalates exposure

18:50 What can we do about all of these toxic exposures!?
