In this chapter, the witches try to heal Will’s hand with a spell. Will opens up to Lyra and shares stories of life with his mother, her mental health, and their experience being the victims of bullying from some horrible children. Ruta Skadi drops in, literally, and tells them of her Asriel finding adventure, the war that is to come, and a mysterious someone or something called the Æsahættr that will help win Asriel the war. A sleeping Will and Lyra are surrounded by angels in an eerie tableau as Serafina and Ruta make their plans.
