Have you had someone you know and respect tell you you can't do something that is on your heart to do? What did you do? Shrink back and listen to the advice? Push back and discredit their advice and do it anyway? What about where you have told YOURSELF "you can't do that...."

I used to think that the people who told me I couldn't do something that was significant or meaningful, were against me. I have learned that the contrary or opposing advice is actually a GIFT. It was NECESSARY to have people tell me I couldn't do it... or that it would be difficult... or wouldn't work. Why? Because it provided the early test of intestinal fortitude NECESSARY to push forward and do what was in my heart to do.

  • If they had been all positive I could have deferred to, or relied on them rather than growing as a leader.

If they had been all positive I wouldn't have had the strength built to overcome other challenges and opposition as it arose.

If they had been all positive I wouldn't have completed further due diligence or heart checking NECESSARY to find an internal strength to push forward.

So where have you been given a "You can't do that."

Did you listen and need to recheck your decision so that you have no regrets?

Did you ignore them and do it anyway but need to readjust your attitude toward them - they are not your enemy but actually a gift to help you succeed?

Do you need to adjust perspective and dig in and simply do the very thing that yourself or others say can't be done... because you were BORN FOR THIS!
