As our kids grow up, we age right along with them…unfortunately! Well, it’s not really unfortunate because with age comes wisdom, gratitude and some painful experiences (physically and emotionally).

My guest, Kristin van Ogtrop, talks about what it’s like as we get older and the little indignities we face from our kids growing up and away from us, our bodies not being as reliable as they once were, the frustration and humiliation of menopause, and the pain of losing friends and family – it’s a good thing Kristin is SO FUNNY!

She talks about these topics in her book, “Did I Say That Outloud? Midlife Indignities and How to Survive Them.”  She talks with humor and levity and ultimately gratitude on the journey we are on in midlife.

In this episode we talk about:

      The indignities…

Embracing imperfection (as I inelegantly demonstrate at the end)

Facing mortality and how she became known as “The Fork Lady” when she had her own troubling and hilarious health crisis (hilarious now, in retrospect)

Watching our kids grow up and away from us and how we can make sense of it
