If you’re short on time but big on getting results with your content, here’s how to start creating YouTube Shorts. And it’s well worth the effort!

A YouTube Short is basically like TikTok or Instagram Reels on YouTube. Short, vertical videos, largely captured on mobile devices that are 60 seconds or less.

Currently only users in India have access to the beta Shorts camera and are able to create short vertical videos right on their YouTube app. This means they get editing tools to do things like string multiple video clips together, use speed controls and timers, and add music to their video clips.

The beta access to creators tools is expanding to the US in the coming weeks.

According to YouTube, people can find Shorts videos on the homepage, the Shorts shelf which is basically just a section in the feed dedicated to Shorts, similar to what you see on Instagram in your feed for Instagram Reels. You can also find shorts by searching and by checking your subscription feed.

I have to admit, I’m struggling with the actual shorts viewing experience, so have just been searching for #shorts so if you want to see what other people are creating that’s an easy path to follow – just make sure you look for the hashtag specifically in the title of the video.

Even with limited access to Shorts creation tools, YouTube has stated that the Shorts Player is now receiving more than 3.5 billion daily views globally.

If you get the strategy right, you can jump in on those early results yourself. And it’s much easier than you might think.
