Darren Jay is a legend from the rave scene and a pioneer of the Jungle sound that took the UK (and the world) by storm in the 90s - something that has not let up to this day. Having always had an obsession for percussion and a vast multi-genre record collection, it was inevitable that a young Darren would gravitate towards the burgeoning rave scene in the late 80s. After tasting success playing early House out of Chicago, Darren was at the forefront of the Junglist revolution in the UK that would eventually morph into the Drum & Bass sounds that we all know and love today. In this chat we discover how he made that journey, what it was like in the inner sanctum of the scene's hangouts such as Black Market Records, why the iconic AWOL events had such a strong reputation amongst the D&B community and how he is introducing these breakbeat sounds to the already diverse selection of genres on his now native Ibiza.
