After Kim went through the rules she gave her an employee’s handbook, an apron and a black t-shirt with the Kim’s Deli café embroidered in the corner. Giselle placed everything in her oversize tote bag and headed out the door. She walked outside and patted her bag carefully. Guilt washed over her. What if her mum found out? The ringing of her phone made her jump and she inhaled sharply when she saw her mums name pop up. Oh no, she thought, she found out! She’s going to kill me.
“Hey mum.” She forced her voice to sound cherry.
“Honey, where are you? I didn’t realise you were going out today?” Her mother’s voice said from the other end.
“Um, yeah. I’m… I just needed to check somethings out in the bookstore.” She lied.
“Oh ok.” Her mum paused briefly and continued talking. “I’m going out with my sisters tonight to celebrate my new job. Do you want me to leave dinner ready for you?”
“No ma, I’ll buy something and take it home.” She breathed with relief. “Thank you though. Go have fun!”
Her mum blew a kiss over the phone and hung up.
