Today I’m joined by Erin aka Food Science Babe. She has a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. She has worked in the food industry for 10+ years both in the conventional as well as the natural/organic sectors.
There are so many myths surrounding the food we eat including what’s in it, how it’s processed, whether it’s good or bad, or if natural or organic alternatives are better for us or the environment.
Erin works endlessly to present evidence-based food science knowledge to help people feel more confident in their food choices.
So many of us have false beliefs about food and the food industry, which is why Erin’s work is so important and why I’m so excited to speak with her today.
In this episode Erin and I are going to discuss:
What is food science and how she first got started in the industry
Her own personal beliefs around food and when/how she started to question them
Chemicals in food
Organic versus conventional foods – what are the differences and which ones should you be choosing?
Dispelling common food myths including glyphosates in food, GMOs, and whether foods marketed as ‘natural’ are actually better for you
How to decipher between fear-based food marketing and fact-based food marketing
